WWE Live Event Results: Ypsilanti, Michigan (05/22/2017)

WWE Live Event Results: Ypsilanti, Michigan (05/22/2017)

How did Jinder Mahal fare in his first night as WWE Champio

Sami Zayn teamed with Randy Orton in the main event
Jinder Mahal headlined his first ever show was WWE Champion last night. The Maharaja entered Ypsilanti (Michigan) as champion after defeating Randy Orton at Backlash, and the two collided in tag team action in the main event of last night’s show.
Mahal partnered with Baron Corbin whilst Orton teamed with Corbon’s conqueror from the night before, Sami Zayn. Elsewhere on the card, there were a number of Backlash re-matches, and the United States and SmackDown Tag Tam Championships were also on the line.
Here are the full results from the show in Ypsilanti.

#1 Shinsuke Nakamura vs. Dolph Ziggler

The opening match of the show mirrored that of the night before, with the same setup and the same outcome. Shinsuke Nakamura defeated Dolph Ziggler with the Kinshasha, although by all accounts the two continue to have average matches. Dolph wrestled the entire match with his shirt on, although why that is relevant nobody truly knows.

Result: Shinsuke Nakamura defeated Dolph Ziggler

#2 Breezango vs. The Ascension

Plenty of comedy here, although not quite as much as during The Fashion Police’s match with The Usos at Backlash, as Breezango looked to get back to winning ways against the least effective team in all of WWE.
They managed to do just that, with Fandango picking up the win for his team by rolling up Viktor for the 1-2-3.
Result: Breezango defeated The Ascension

#3a Tye Dillinger vs. Aiden English

Another Backlash rematch saw Tye Dillinger and Aiden English battle once again, with the same result. Tye Dillinger was immensely over in Ypsilanti with plenty of ‘10’ chants, with Aiden getting his fair share of heat thanks to numerous ‘chicken’ chants.
Dillinger picked up the win after hitting the Tye Breaker, although Aiden English’s night wasn’t quite over.
Result: Tye Dillinger defeated Aiden English

#3b Aiden English vs. Mojo Rawley

English was understandably unhappy with yet another loss to Dillinger, and as a result, The Artiste demanded another opponent. Mojo Rawley answered the challenge and was able to defeat English in the blink of an eye, hitting The Vaudevillian with a running elbow in the corner.
Not a good night for Aiden English, to say the least.
Result: Mojo Rawley defeated Aiden English

#4 Luke Harper vs. Erick Rowan

The Wyatt Family continued to implode as former partners Luke Harper and Erick Rowan faced each other again. The two were in the come-down spot at Backlash and put together a fine little match, with Harper getting the win.
The same formula was followed here with the same result, Harper pinning Rowan after hitting the Discus Clothesline.
Result: Luke Harper defeated Erick Rowan

#5 WWE United States Championship: Kevin Owens [c] vs. AJ Styles

KO and AJ finished off the first half of the show with another fine match for the United States Championship, albeit another fine match with a dirty finish in order to keep the belt on Owens.
Styles picked up the win via disqualification after Owens hit The Phenomenal One with a chair in front of the referee. AJ was able to get some retribution after the match, hitting Owens with the Styles Clash and leaving him lying in the centre of the ring.
Result: AJ Styles defeated Kevin Owens by disqualification

#6 SmackDown Women’s Champion Naomi, Charlotte Flair & Becky Lynch vs. Natalya, Carmella & James Ellsworth

The babyface trio gained revenge for their defeat at Backlash
Yes, you read that right – James Ellsworth took part in the six-woman tag team match last night. Ellsworth replaced Tamina in the match, but the babyfaces were able to pick up the victory after losing at Backlash.
SmackDown Women’s Champion Naomi picked up the win, pinning Carmella after hitting the Princess of Staten Island with the Rear View.
Result: Naomi, Charlotte Flair & Becky Lynch defeated Natalya. Carmella & James Ellsworth

#7 WWE SmackDown Tag Team Championships: The Usos [c] vs. American Alpha

The Usos followed up their defence of the SmackDown Tag Team Championship at Backlash by doing the same in Ypsilanti, albeit against different opponents. Jimmy & Jey took on former champions American Alpha in Michigan, and were able to defeat Gable & Jordan after the former Olympian found himself rolled up.
This would prove to be the only heel victory on the entire show.
Result: The Usos defeated American Alp

#8 Randy Orton & Sami Zayn vs. WWE Champion Jinder Mahal & Baron Corbin

’WWE Champion Jinder Mahal’. That might take a while to sink in. Jinder teamed up with the man that many believed would be the next first time champion in the company, the Lone Wolf, Baron Corbin, to take on former WWE Champion Randy Orton and Sami Zayn.
Jinder cut a promo before the match that got some serious heat, although this eventually morphed into chants for 3MB. The babyfaces picked up the win after Orton hit Corbin with an RKO. Jinder might have to get used to losing house show tag team matches for a little while.
Result: Randy Orton & Sami Zayn defeated Baron Corbin & Jinder Mahal

WWE News: Chris Jericho advertised for another WWE Live Event

Y2J will be paying a visit to Asia this summer.

Jericho’s booked for three house shows once his tour with FO

What’s the story?
Chris Jericho will return to the WWE to work several Raw live events in June and July. Jericho’s name is now being advertised for another Raw live event in Southeast Asia.

In case you didn’t know...
Jericho’s latest run with the WWE began back in 2016 when he announced his entry for the 2016 Royal Rumble match. He stayed with the company until May 2, 2017, where he lost the United States Championship to Kevin Owens.
The Ayatollah of Rock-n-Rolla is currently living up to his nickname as he tours with his band Fozzy. Their song, Judas, was the theme for NXT Takeover: Chicago and currently has 3.3 million views on YouTube.

The heart of the matter
In addition to the WWE live events on June 30th and July 1st in Japan, Jericho is currently being advertised for the Raw live event scheduled to take place on June 28, 2017, at the Singapore Indoor Stadium in Singapore.
The following are the list of events that Y2J is advertised to appear on this summer:
Wednesday June 28: WWE Live Singapore: Singapore Indoor Stadium in Singapore
Friday June 30: WWE Live Tokyo: Rygoku Kokugikan in Tokyo, Japan
Saturday July 1: WWE Live Tokyo: Rygoku Kokugikan in Tokyo, Japan
What’s next?
Jericho’s tour with Fozzy is scheduled to continue through the end of May until the last week in June.
Author’s take

WWE typically does well in Japan, so Jericho’s presence may or may not influence the attendance at these shows; both of which seat about 12,000 people. With nothing but live events on his radar, there’s no telling when Jericho will return to Raw or SmackDown to put someone on The List.

Shinsuke Nakamura def. Dolph Ziggler Backlash Results May 21st 2017

WWE Backlash Results May 21st 2017, Full Show Match Updates and Video Highlights

Your new WWE Champion........Jinder Mahal.

The hotly anticipated WWE Backlash came to us from the Allstate Arena in Chicago, IL. The first SmackDown Live PPV since the Superstar Shake-UP saw Randy Orton defending the WWE Championship against Jinder Mahal. The card also had Shinsuke Nakamura’s main-roster in-ring debut as well as Kevin Owens vs AJ Styles.

Shinsuke Nakamura vs Dolph Ziggler

Shinsuke and Ziggler started the match pretty tentatively, feeling each other out in the early stages before Ziggler disrespectfully slapped Nakamura across the face. Ziggler did his best to slow Nakamura down and negate his striking ability by employing a series of locks and hold but Nakamura maneuvered out of it and shoved Ziggler away before hitting the Good Vibrations boot in the corner.
As Ziggler rolled out to ringside, Nakamura followed him out only to roll him back. As Nakamura entered the ring himself, Ziggler hit him with a boot followed by a neckbreaker to take advantage. Ziggler then employed a chokehold and hit Nakamura with a dropkick for the 2-count when he broke out. He then followed it up with a jumping elbow for another 2-count.
Nakamura then reversed an attempted Irish Whip and hit Ziggler with a brutal knee to the gut, followed by a spinning heel kick. He continued his offence by hitting running knees in the corner for a 2-count of his own. Nakamura then tried to lock in a triangle hold but Ziggler managed to reach the ropes out of sheer desperation.
Out of nowhere, Ziggler powered out of an attempted vertical suplex and hit a big DDT to earn another 2-count of the ensuing cover. He then followed it up with a Famouser for a nearfall before looking to hit a Superkick. He then hit a Zig-Zag for another nearfall.
Nakamura looked to fight back as he hit a combo of strikes and knees but Ziggler hit him with a superkick to the back of the head for another nearfall. Ziggler then made the mistake of spitting in Nakamura’s face. Nakamura viciously attacked Ziggler and hit him with a knee across the jaw.
Nakamura then headed to the top rope but missed his attempted Kinshasa. However, he recovered and he hit Ziggler with a forearm strike to the back of the head before finishing Ziggler off with a Kinshasa.

WWE NXT News: Live event match stopped after top superstar gets injured.

WWE NXT News: Live event match stopped after top superstar gets injured

After an apparent injury, is D.I.Y. member Tomasso Ciampa out for Takeover?

Is the Italian Psycho Killer out for Takeover?
According to reports, Tomasso Ciampa – one-half of the former NXT Tag Team Champions D.I.Y. – suffered a legit injury during an NXT Live Event just outside of Cincinnati, OH. The injury was first reported by many fans in attendance via Twitter. However, we’re still waiting on an official confirmation.
Ciampa was participating in a tag team match with his regular D.I.Y. partner, Johnny Gargano, against SAnitY members Eric Young and Alexander Wolfe at a live event in Highland Heights, KY.
Not long after the match began, Ciampa dove from the ring apron onto both Young and Wolfe, at which point he apparently hurt his leg. Adding more credibility to the report, after the incident, the referee held up the crossed-arms “X” sign, usually indicating to the medical personnel backstage that the injury is for real. The match itself was declared a no contest.

Tommaso Ciampa clearly in Pain!
D.I.Y. are scheduled this Saturday to challenge current NXT Tag Team Champions the Authors of Pain in a ladder match for the titles. It still remains to be seen if Ciampa will be cleared to compete or not.
