5 WWE superstars fans hate the most
We all have that wrestler we don't particularly like but here are the 5 most hated WWE superstars by the masses today.
The great thing about the WWE is that fans are allowed to boo and cheer whoever they want. Live event crowds alongside open media outlets give fans the platform to voice their displeasure at WWE programming. Whether or not Vince McMahon listens to their cries is another subject entirely.
Despite their larger than life auras, not every WWE superstar is liked by the masses, in fact, some are even hated, hated to the point that the fans let them know on a weekly basis. Some are hated for their wrestling, others are hated for their personality and others are hated just because of who backs them.
Either way, we have some very hated WWE superstars amongst our generation today.
Here are 5 WWE superstars the fans hate the most.
#5 Carmella
As the princess of Staten Island, Carmella’s run in the WWE has not been so easy to watch. Her run on SmackDown has not been received too well by the WWE universe. Some would say that the fans resenting her is indicative of how good she is as a heel, others would say that she’s simply not good enough.
In the midst of a women’s revolution where females like Charlotte and Sasha Banks have taken wrestling to another level, the presence of Carmella doesn’t seem to have added any significance to that change. Fans have no interest in her wrestling and neither do they care about what feuds she’s involved in.
Luckily, the addition of James Ellsworth has breathed some much-needed life into her persona.
#4 Dolph Ziggler
As The Showoff and benchmark for the main event matches on SmackDown, Dolph Ziggler’s career trajectory has been on a downward spiral lately. For a wrestler that everyone used to root for, Ziggler is far away from being liked. Unfortunately, he’s become a wrestler that not many fans would care if he left tomorrow.
His screeching voice has become annoying to the ears of the WWE Universe and his constant over-selling in matches is not interesting to the fans anymore. As one of the few WWE superstars to have over 100 televised losses, it’s not hard to see why fans don’t get behind the show-off anymore.
WWE officials have clearly lost interest in Ziggler and so have the fans.
#3 The Miz
In this case, Mike Mizanin has played his role to the tee. The 6-time Intercontinental Champion is so good at playing the bad guy, it feels wrong to picture him as a good guy. But The Miz has taken the heel role to new levels as fans genuinely resent his presence in the ring.
In the modern era of wrestling, we’ve seen ‘smarks’ change the way we perceive and respond to wrestlers. Now it’s seen as the cool thing to cheer heels and boo babyfaces, but The Miz has bucked that trend spectacularly. He’s so good at his job that he’s blurred the lines between kayfabe and reality, becoming hated in both realms.
Fans hear his voice and shriek in anger at the prospect of hearing another one of his long monologues.
The Miz is hated not because he’s a bad wrestler, he’s hated because he’s awesome.
#2 John Cena
As the most polarising WWE superstar in wrestling history, it’s no surprise that John Cena resides firmly on this list. Over the past decade, in every arena he’s stepped into, we’ve heard the famous ‘LET’S GO CENA, CENA SUCKS! chants. The chants have defined the 16-time world champion’s career and firmly put him front and centre of the WWE.
He’s loved by millions but also loathed by just as many. With success comes resentment and John Cena’s, fuelled by Vince McMahon, has garnered him many detractors. ‘Hardcore’ fans hate that he’s been handed so many opportunities and afforded so many luxuries other deserving wrestlers don’t get.
Sixteen world titles alongside countless main event opportunities show that the company refused to let the resentment halt the greatness of John Cena.
Everywhere he goes, the division is clear and perhaps only when he retires will he become universally loved by the masses.
#1 Roman Reigns
As the WWE’s current golden boy, Roman Reigns is firmly the most hated WWE superstar on the card today. Fans boo him out of every single arena he steps into and mercilessly slate him on social media. The Samoan represents everything fans think is wrong with the product; staleness, unbelievability and bodybuilder-type stars.
After thirteen years of John Cena at the top, fans are not ready for another decade of a re-run. The fans want a Seth Rollins, Finn Balor or Sami Zayn to lead the company into the future, not Roman Reigns. They want something different and unfortunately for Reigns, he will feel the full force of wrath from the fans because of Vince McMahon’s stubbornness.
