WWE News: The Rock on why he didn't attend Wrestlemania 33, using his WWE promo skills in Baywatch
The Brahma Bull revealed why he wasn't at Wrestlemania this year, besides speaking about his use of WWE-promo skills in Baywatch.
What’s the story?
In an interview at the world premiere of Baywatch, entertainment reporter Chris Van Vliet caught up with The Rock.
The Brahma Bull revealed why he wasn’t at Wrestlemania 33, besides stating how his WWE promo skills helped him improvise in Baywatch.
In case you didn’t know...
Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson is one of the most popular professional wrestlers of all time and arguably the highest-grossing movie star in Hollywood today.
The 2017 calendar year marks a trio of multi-million dollar movie showcases for Rocky, with The Fate of the Furious and Baywatch having been released worldwide, and Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle set to release on December 20th.
The heart of the matter
The Rock was joined by the rest of the cast and crew of Baywatch – a film that stars youth icon Zac Efron, former international beauty queen and Bollywood mainstay Priyanka Chopra, Alexandra Daddario, Kelly Rohrbach and Hannibal Buress among others. The 45-year old WWE icon addressed his absence at Wrestlemania last month, revealing-
"No I didn't get a chance to, I was shooting at that time. We were just wrapping up Ballers in LA so I didn't get a chance to make it."
Besides, when asked whether his legendary promo-cutting skills in WWE, helped him improvise in the portrayal of his character Mitch Buchannon in Baywatch, he added-
"1000%. That was the fun part of this movie. We wanted to make sure that we nailed the tone we also wanted to make sure that we took advantage of the rated R platform. If you've seen the movie, there's a lot of things that are very funny and they're clearly rated R."
What’s next?
The Rock still performs as a part-timer for WWE with his last prominent Wrestlemania appearance coming at WM 32 in 2016, where he defeated Erick Rowan in an impromptu matchup, scoring the pinfall in 6 seconds.
Author’s take:
The Rock has truly earned his moniker as The Great One. Although he may not be a full-timer in the WWE anymore, on the odd occasion when he does return to the squared-circle it’s guaranteed entertainment.
As a big-time fan of the old Baywatch series, it’s awesome to see one of my favourite WWE Superstars star in the lead role of the Hollywood presentation. No wonder some people are calling for Rocky to make a presidential run in the near future.
