In case you didn’t know…
We had reported earlier that a match involving The Miz, Seth Rollins and Finn Balor would take place in the episode to determine the No. 1 contender for the Universal championship. Now, it turns out that the report was close, except for the fact that the match was for the #1 contender’s spot for Intercontinental Championship rather than the Universal Championship.
The Miz has been the Intercontinental Champion six times during the course of his WWE career. He defeated Christian on the 1000th episode of Raw to win his first Intercontinental Championship.
The heart of the matter
The reigning Intercontinental Champion, Dean Ambrose, showed up during the earlier segments of the episode and went on to say that he was holding the top title on the red brand. He added that he was itching for a good fight and asked Raw General Manager Kurt Angle to make a call.
The main event was set, with the winner set to fight Ambrose at a later date. The trio of The Miz Seth Rollins and Finn Balor set up a terrific main event, as was expected, with chants of “this is awesome” booming through the arena.
It looked like Rollins would go on to win but Samoa Joe took him out. Then, when it looked like Balor was going to win, Bray Wyatt took him out. In the end, The Miz somehow managed to pin Balor and steal the victory.
