WWE News: Tazz talks about Jinder Mahal's push
The Maharajah might just have a fan in the ECW legend Tazz!
What’s the story?
Former WWE and ECW Superstar Tazz was recently interviewed by Chuck Carroll of CBS Local Sports. During the interview, Tazz was questioned on many WWE-related topics by Caroll including the recent push that Superstar Jinder Mahal has been receiving. Tazz gave his thoughts on the same.
In case you didn’t know...
After a decent outing at WrestleMania 33, which saw him as the last man to be eliminated in the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal, Jinder Mahal was sent over to SmackDown LIVE during the Superstar Shake-up.
As part of the SmackDown LIVE roster, Jinder won a Six-pack challenge which crowned him as the #1 Contender for Randy Orton’s WWE Championship. Jinder has since been feuding with Orton, and his title match against Orton will be happening at WWE’s Backlash Pay Per View event on May 21, 2017.
The heart of the matter
Tazz, who has worked with WWE in both an on-screen and backstage capacity in the past, responded to a question about whether Mahal’s push was too fast. Tazz responded by saying:
“I don’t think so at all. A lot of fans will say the guy wasn’t pushed, they weren’t doing much with him and he was losing a bunch of matches. To me it’s all about, and if Vince McMahon where here he’d agree, if a guy’s in-ring work is strong enough, if he can sell tickets on the microphone and get the proper reaction, has some size, looks believable, it’s “Hey, let’s give this guy a shot.” I don’t have a problem with it at all.To me, if a guy checks all of those boxes, I have no problem with it.”
Tazz added that he was a fan of Jinder Mahal, and was quoted as saying:
“Actually, Jinder Mahal, I’m a fan of his work and his promo style. He’s one of the few that have legitimate heat on the microphone in that company.”
The interviewer then equated Jinder’s push to the one that The Great Khali had received in the past and asked Tazz on his thoughts about the same. To this, the former ECW Heavyweight Champion responded by stating that Jinder is a much better performer than Khali.
The full quote is as follows:
“He’s better. He’s a better worker. He’s better on the microphone. He can get a connectivity, whether negative or positive, with the audience. No disrespect to Khali, but I don’t think he’s anywhere physically or verbally that Jinder is.It’s two different animals. I get your drift and the Indian market and all that. But as a performer and athlete, it’s apples and oranges. I’d take Jinder 10 times over to lead as a performer from that country.”
Tazz also spoke about Shinsuke Nakamura’s push, Finn Balor and other recent developments in the WWE during the interview.
What’s next?
Jinder Mahal will be facing off against Randy Orton on the May 21st Backlash Pay Per View for the WWE Championship. Mahal will be accompanied by the Singh brothers who might play a role in the match themselves.
Author’s take
I completely agree with Tazz’s take on Jinder Mahal and the way that the WWE are pushing him. Jinder is definitely the right man for the WWE to put their bets on when it comes to infiltrating the Indian market. Not only does he have the look, but he also has the mic skills and the in-ring abilities to be able to establish a solid fanbase of his own.
I personally hope that Jinder’s push continues because it’s always good to see fresh faces getting to the top in the WWE.
