WWE Payback 2017 Results April 30th 2017, Full Show Match Updates and Video Highlights

A surprisingly good PPV!

PRE-SHOW   Enzo and Cass vs The Club

This is a match we’ve seen many times before and it wasn’t very different from the earlier iterations.
Enzo and Cass came out first and cut one of their firebrand promos, hyping up their crowd and berating their opponents before the match began.
The match itself was dominated by Enzo and Cass before the heels used nefarious means to win control back. The match opened up and went back and forth in the latter stages before Enzo Amore got his revenge and rolled Karl Anderson up for the win.

Miz TV with special guest Finn Balor

The Miz came out first, accompanied by his wife Maryse. He then introduced Balor to the fans. Miz congratulated Finn for his 5-minute long entrance and Miz asked the fans why they were so into his entrance. Finn replied that they were the Balor Club.
Miz did a good job of talking Finn up, saying he had been a champion wherever he’d gone and he was the longest reigning NXT Champion. Miz then asked him if he felt like a failure for having to relinquish the WWE Universal Championship in 24 hours.
As Miz started to berate Balor, Finn promised to win back the Universal Championship from Brock Lesnar. Finn then said that Miz could join one of two clubs – ‘Balor Club' or the ‘Finn Balor just kicked my *ss club’.
Finn then said that every episode of Miz TV ended the same way – with Miz getting beaten up - before looking to walk out of the ring after Miz hid behind Maryse. As Miz went to stop Balor from leaving, he got hit with a slingblade. Balor then hit a Coup de Grace to end the segment.

MAIN CARD

Kevin Owens (C) vs Chris Jericho (for the WWE United States Championship)

Kevin Owens left the ring as soon as the bell rang but Jericho followed him out and took the fight to him. In control early, Jericho looked to hit a Lionsault but Owens managed to move out of the way. Jericho then went to hit the springboard dropkick as Owens rested on the apron but Owens saw it coming and sent Jericho face-first into the top of the turnbuckle.
Owens then hit a cannonball against the barricade before locking in a trademark chinlock inside the ring. Jericho briefly rolled Owens but Owens replied with a clubbing clothesline. Jericho tried to fight back with knife-edged chops but Owens hit him with a snap DDT before locking in a side headlock.
The two men traded knife-edged chops before Jericho hit a distracted Owens with a double axe-handle from the top rope before following it up with an enzeguiri. Jericho followed it up with more knife-edged chops in the corner before Owens replied with a superkick for a nearfall.
Jericho brought Owens down with a back elbow before attempting a Lionsault but he came crashing down onto Owens’ knees. Owens followed it up with a cannonball for another nearfall.
Owens then looked to hit the Pop-Up Powerbomb but Jericho reversed it into a Walls of Jericho. Owens somehow managed to reach the ropes with one finger forcing Jericho to break up the count.
A frustrated Jericho started working on Owens’ arm. As Owens reeled in the corner, the referee tried to stop Jericho from attacking Owens again. KO poked Jericho in the eye and rolled him up. Jericho kicked out and locked in the Walls of Jericho again.
This time Owens’ injured arm prevented him from reaching the ropes and he was forced to tap out.

Neville (C) vs Austin Aries (for the WWE Cruiserweight Championship)

These two men met again for the first time after WrestleMania 33 – once again battling over the Cruiserweight Championship.
Aries hit an early armdrag which looked to have taken Neville by surprise. The two men started off at a fast pace before Aries hit a couple of snap armdrags followed by a dropkick. Aries then showed off in the corner as Neville came charging in. Aries hit him with an elbow before diving at Neville who’d rolled out to ringside.
Aries rolled Neville back in before heading to the top rope. He looked to be attempting a 450 Splash but Neville got up and swept his feet out from under him, sending Aries crashing into the mat. Neville locked in a headlock before hitting Aries with a facebuster.
Neville then headed to the top rope and hit a dropkick for a 2-count. Aries soon won control back by attacking Neville as he gloated and posed for the fans. He then hit Neville with a crossbody before hitting him with a Gut Buster and an STO before hitting his trademark pendulum elbow. Aries then hit his trademark flying elbow for a nearfall.
Aries then hit Neville with a rope-assisted neckbreaker which sent Neville rolling out to ringside. Aries then picked up speed and hit the Heat Seeking Missile but once again he only got a nearfall. Aries then looked to hit the Discus Fivearm but Neville dodged it and hit back with a series of kicks.
Aries then headed to the top rope, looking for a 450 Splash. He changed plans when Neville got back to his feet and hit Neville with a Sunset Flip Powerbomb which he transitioned into the Last Chancery.
On the verge of tapping out, Neville pulled the referee into himself to break up the submission hold. The referee didn’t take kindly to this and DQ-ed Neville. A bad end to a great match. Neville retains.
